Pi Day 14 March – 3.14

For the day that is in it, an extract from my poem Pi

a circle seeking its measure

(the relation of its diameter

to its circumference)

its inner to its outer self

a concept

doomed to failure

the impossibility

of dividing a straight line

into a curve

a fractional expression

which never ends

at best an approximation of itself

as with humankind’s desire

to measure the incommensurable

the relentless computation

the ceaseless search

for its ultimate expression

a calculation

of perfection
